The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)

The Ohio Board of Nursing is a long-standing and active member of NCSBN. NCSBN is a not-for-profit organization whose membership is comprised of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories.

NCSBN is a not-for-profit organization that provides a venue for collaboration on nursing issues affecting public protection and patient safety.

Examples of NCSBN’s work include:

• Developing and administering the nursing entry-level examination for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses (NCLEX-RN, NCLEX-PN)
• Developing and administering examinations for nurse assistants (NNAAP) and medication aides (MACE)
• Monitoring trends in public policy, nursing practice and education
• Promoting uniformity in the regulation of nursing practice
• Conducting research on nursing practice issues
• Facilitating forums for information exchange for members
• Maintaining a national nursing database, known as Nursys
• Coordinating the reporting of disciplinary actions to the national Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB)
• Conducting nursing workforce surveys
